Interior design and decor is evolving into something fascinating. If you have been reading my posts you will know that Jijjy's Maison is about sharing beautiful things that are traditional, Afro-centric, bohemian, vintage, maximalist and shabby chic. As you have noticed in my previous interior trends posts, I stress on the timeless nature of the designs. We love homes that look lived in and / or look like the owner has really stamped their own personality into their Maison.

These timeless interior design , and home decoration trends tend to evoke charm, warmth; rooms that feel lived in with curations, collections of loved items with history like airlooms and valuable collection of antiques and art.

"I will keep saying it; "your home is your spa, your sanctuary as well as your fortress".

I see a further evolution of the above interior genre, where by, no matter how much the modern, contemporary trends creep in; or the new-fangled, grey interior slinks into people's home; the maximalism, traditional and bohemian decor trends continue to evolve and has taken over the home decor world in a larger form. People are continuously being motivated to make their homes uniquely their own.

For me looking at this new mass found freedom, expressed in people's homes, I realize the beauty in peoples minds. If you look closely you see the individuals personality and history.

The modern and contemporary interior designers notice this repeated revival, pushing them to join it with one foot outside the door. Do you see what I mean? Let me know if you want to know more in the comment section and I will do a whole post in this.

Let me share with you these timeless interior design and interior decor genres within the interior world.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose timeless colours for maximalism decor?
Its about choosing colours that you love and blending them between the accessories and the wall colours. For instance if you have a green carpet, add paintings of pictures with touches of green to draw the eyes between the carpet and the wall. if you have a jewel mustard arm chair, add some gold frames or gold vases or table lamps.
What materials finishes last the longest?
Materials such as Metal, Bricks and wood have high durability compared to the MDFs and fake metals. Hence the love for old furniture antiques and accessories for the home. They last longer compared to MDF furniture.
What design mistakes should I avoid when redecorating?
Whether you are going for the maximalism or minimalism, avoid the designs that do not allow flow around the home. Avoid blocking the windows. Allow light to flow through the home and opportunities to stand by the window for sunshine or view of nature. Avoid furniture to close to the entrances and exits. This means you keep knocking into them. if you are in a bad mood or in a hurry this makes your mood worse. That is why the Japanese talk about feng shui. Arrange your furniture around the room in a way you have easy access to walk around the room as well as leaving the room into another.
